Not illustrated. 1838 Excerpt: …against any juror, on account of his citizenship, non-residence, age, or other legal disability, shall be allowed after the jury are sworn. Sec. 13. No person exercising the functions of a clergyman, practitioner of physic, attorney at law, clerk, or any officer of a court, ferry-keeper, overseer of roads, constable, or any person over the age of sixty years, shall be compelled to serve on a jury. Sec 14. Nothing in the preceding section shall be so construed as to exempt any person from serving on juries, who may have been licensed as an attorney at law, and who does not practise the same. Sec 15. Service on juries shall be equalized, as nearly as practicable, among the citizens liable to be summoned as jurors; aDd all officers shall avoid persons of ill fame, or those who are under the influence of the parties; and grand jurors shall not be compelled to serve on petit juries during the same term. Sec 16. If any person summoned as a grand or petit juror, shall fail to attend, he shall be fined in any sum not exceeding one hundred dollars. Sec 17. If any officer directly or indirectly take, accept or receive any money, reward or other thing to excuse any person from serving on any jury, or under that pretence, he shall forfeit one hundred dollars, one half to the person who will sue for the same, and the other half to the county, to be recovered by action of debt, in the name of the person who will sue for the same. Sec. IS. If either party to a suit shall desire a special struck jury, to try any such suit, be may make application to tbe circuit court in term time, or to the clerk thereof, in vacation, for that purpose; and if such court or clerk shall be satisfied that a struck jury ought to be granted to the party, an order shall be made to that effect, a…
